Robert Galbraith is a pseudonym for J.K. Rowling. The author wanted the novel to be accepted for the writing and be successful (or not) by its own right. She hoped to be able to write at least 3 books under this pseudonym before people found out it was her. A friend of Christopher Gossage, a partner at J.K. Rowling’s solicitors, told the press who Robert Galbraith really was.
A fiction editor at Orion Books turned down The Cuckoo’s Calling. If she had know the author’s true identity would she have made the same decision? Probably not.
