Phillipa is roused from a deep sleep in the middle of the night by her grandmother who gives her a bracelet, 2 rings, a scroll and a seal, and tells her to run and hide before a group of men come to get her. Bewildered, Phillipa stays a while longer only to see her grandmother die in front of her, and the aforementioned men arrive in an elaborate carriage. Luckily, she manages to flee unnoticed, and decides to go to the New World in order to avoid her pursuers and start a new life. Soon she notices that the bracelet her grandmother gave her has the power to save her life and heal her. Is that why these men are pursuing her? And why do they also want to kill her?
Deeply is a very entertaining story with likable characters. In her adventures, Phillipa encounters many dangers, including storms, pirates, an enraged bull and deadly sharks. While this book is aimed at tweens and teens, I really had fun reading it. There is not a boring moment, and the suspense keeps you wanting to know what happens next. This is the kind of story I want to share with my daughter, and I can’t wait for her to read it in a few years when she is a bit older. I wonder if Patricia Srigley plans to write a sequel to this story… I would love to know what happens to Phillipa in her new life. Does she adjust well? Does she meet William?
Deeply was sent to me for free in exchange for an honest review.
